Double success for Bishton and Underwood in Green Flag awards
Community pride in our local environment in Bishton and Underwood has been nationally recognised with TWO Green flag awards for local environment projects.
The Memorial Garden in Underwood and the Village pond in Bishton both impressed judges who remarked on the excellent features and community effort that make these areas so special.
Bishton and Underwood community council submitted the applications for the 2025 awards and the community council has also agreed to ensure the Green flags are proudly displayed at both locations.
John Davies, Chairman of the Community council, said “To be awarded not one , but two, Green flags, is great news for Bishton and Underwood. National recognition of local efforts to protect and improve our local environment rewards all the efforts put in by local volunteers and inspires us to keep these spaces clean and green.”
The Green Flag Award in Wales is managed by Keep Wales Tidy and recognizes and rewards well-managed parks and green spaces. It’s a benchmark for quality, indicating high standards in areas like biodiversity, cleanliness, environmental management, and community involvement. Wales has a significant number of Green Flag sites, including a large number of Community Green Flags, more than any other country participating in the scheme.
